La gala de premiación tuvo lugar en el Fairmont Century Plaza de Los Ángeles, que distingue a los mejores logros cinematográficos, televisivos y de streaming. Fue conducida por la actriz, presentadora y comediante Chelsea Handler, y transmitida en vivo para toda América Latina por TNT y HBO Max, con comentarios de los presentadores mexicanos Ileana Rodriguez y Rafael Sarmiento.
Los CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS® son organizados anualmente por la Critics Choice Association, la mayor organización de críticos de Estados Unidos y Canadá, que representa a más de 600 críticos de medios y periodistas de entretenimiento.
Se premiaron las mejores actuaciones del año de intérpretes como Michelle Yeoh, Austin Butler, Viola Davis, Brendan Fraser y Cate Blanchett. La cantante Janelle Monáe recibió el premio especial SeeHer,
que homenajea a las mujeres que abogan por la igualdad de género y pone en valor a los personajes que cuestionan los estereotipos. Por su parte, Jeff Bridges recibió el premio a toda una vida.
